Imagine settling in on your well-deserved family vacation by the resort pool, enjoying the sounds of splashing and laughter from your children and other relaxed vacationers.
Then imagine hearing a clicking sound that sounds strangely familiar as you take a sip of your cocktail.
The clicking sound of … wait … are those … NAILS?!
For mum Katy, who was recently on holiday in Dubai, that’s exactly the sound she heard – and all her worst fears were confirmed.
Speaking on TikTok, the mother-of-three revealed how she came face-to-face with the “severe act” while relaxing in a tanning salon.
“I know what that sound is, please don’t let it be real, right next to where I’m sitting,” she shared in the viral video.
“So I’m reading my book, ignoring the sound… But I know exactly what the sound is. A dirty pig is clipping its toenails – about 15 meters from me,” she explains.
“A man, a grown man, is cutting his toenails by the pool. I can’t.
“How am I so shocked by the nature of some people?”
But that’s not the worst
But what he did next was even worse than the cut.
The man was then faced with what to do with all the nail clippings and his solution was to shake all the nails off the towel and “on the floor” around the public pool.
The woman couldn’t believe what she was seeing and asked her followers if she was the only one who thought this was gross and weird.
“Please tell me I’m not the only one who is completely disgusted by this,” she pleaded. “Surely cutting your nails is a private thing, don’t you do it next to a public swimming pool?”
Gross or totally acceptable?
Many of Katy’s followers said they would also be upset if they saw someone do this to them. EVERYWHERE in public – not just by a hotel pool.
“I’d be furious!” and “Why would you choose to do it around the pool and NOT in your room?” were just a few of the comments that perfectly summed up the vibe in the comment thread.
To further the conversation, I decided to put the question to the people who read about “entitled acts” in public on a daily basis – the Kidspot team.
“No, this is absolutely disgusting. It’s gross enough to see a bandage floating in water, but seeing someone’s fake nail would make me never want to step foot in a pool again,” insisted one team member.
Another agreed: “I would be disgusted by this behaviour. While the pool and sunbeds may be a shared public space, it is simply unsanitary to do so. Please learn to use a bathroom instead 😖.”
Another mother said she would escalate the matter: “I would report it to the hotel staff as it is a major hygiene issue. We all know that fingernails and toenails contain bacteria.”
And another mother insisted it was “right at worst”.
“Foul. Absolutely foul. With absolutely zero respect for your surroundings and/or the people who have to observe or even clean up your mess,” she said.
